The Things I wish I Knew

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
— Jeremiah 29:11

Harbor in Costa Rica.

I wish I knew the things that are unknown.

If that were so, decisions would be light

And choices would feel bright

Designed to guide our feet

Straight towards

The path that turns out right.

And yet, we do not get to know

the answers that we hope to know.

Instead, we walk a trail of turns

going one way or another into the unknown.

We think we know where we are going,

But often, we end up somewhere else altogether.

In the end, as we look back on the journey

we realize it was all as it was meant to be.

There are many things I wish I knew,

But I give thanks because I know

The getting there may not be easy,

but the outcome and the growth

makes the journey worth the while.
